Castle Royal Hotel
A hundred year old property on Moi Avenue, Castle Royal Hotel in Mombasa is a colonial gem and a favorite of visitors who seek a break away from the beach culture of the North and South Coasts.
Only ten minutes away from the colorful and historic Old Town and the well-preserved Fort Jesus, the heritage Castle Hotel attracts guests who want to relive a little of the old colonial life-style.
There is no better way to do so than to watch the world go by while sipping coffee or a cold drink on the newly refinished veranda. Also, grab the opportunity to try the delicious ice-creams at the ice-cream parlor which also stocks a nice assortment of snacks such as samosas and cheese puffs.
After having undergone a recent face-lift, the large and clean rooms at the Castle Hotel are now fitted with air conditioning, ensuite bathrooms, electric door locks, inroom electric safes, TV, a pretty good selection of satellite channels, internet access and windows treated to cut the sun’s glare.
Rooms are so well sound proofed that even the ones facing the street are spared of street noise. There are a total of 68 rooms in the 4-storey white-washed building.
The restaurant at the Castle Royal serves a buffet breakfast and an a la carte lunch. There is a bar for cocktails and a coffee bar as well.
Guests get a welcome drink on arrival and have a choice of single, double, twin and triple rooms.
The largest of four convention rooms can fit up to 420 attendees and the smallest one will accommodate 20 people.
Do not be surprised if the Castle Hotel requires upfront payment but at the reasonable rate of around US$70 per night, it fits most pockets. Visa and Mastercard are accepted.
