When you’re getting ready to head out to the airport for your flight that will eventually take you to this tropical paradise, you may be scratching your head trying to figure out whether or not you have everything you need to maximize your enjoyment.

You are certainly going to need every day necessities like a toothbrush, toothpaste, clothing, comfortable walking shoes, flip-flops or sandals for the beach, and suntan lotion. If you have comfortable hiking boots, you might want to bring them along. Yes, your sneakers can be fine, but when you visit Fort Jesus or one of the amazing wildlife sanctuaries, you might want to do some walking around on relatively rough terrain. That’s when hiking boots can come in handy.

Unusual Item #2: A wide brimmed hat.

If you hang out at the pool of your Mombasa Hotel, sitting on the stool at the bar that is inside the pool, you’re going to be exposed to the direct sunlight for quite a stretch of time. You can get burned easily.

Having a wide brimmed hat can help protect your neck, face, ears, and shoulders to some degree.

Unusual Item #3: An extra swimsuit.

Maybe you packed two swimsuits because you are planning ahead. Pack one more. Because the weather in Mombasa is absolutely amazing, you could head out to the beach in the morning, swim in the beautiful clear blue Indian Ocean and then head back to your hotel for lunch, eating by the pool and going for a dip, and then decide to go back to the ocean once again. Everybody knows putting on a wet swimsuit is not the most comfortable thing in the world.

Packing one extra swimsuit can provide you comfort, and it can also be stylish if you are traveling with other people.
